Dear SISC Members,
when you receive the baton in a relay race from your predecessor, it is natural to look around and try to consider more in depth "the state of the art" of the Scientific Society of which you have temporarily assumed the presidency. My impression, after these first three months in office, is that SISC, a multidisciplinary society, is a very complex organism in its various local situations and features a dynamic structure in its many initiatives. It is certainly not my intention, here and now, to carry out a detailed analysis, but I would like to at least mention some of the most significant aspects.
The products of Italian researchers in the headache field are reported has being among the most important in the world both in quantity and quality. However, it is important to think about the future, and therefore it is in this context, that the initiative of SISC to fund 10 scholarships for young Italian researchers came forth, so that they could refine their skills and abilities by participating in the courses of the School of Advanced Studies (SAS) of the European Headache Federation (EHF).
Traditional SISC institutions, such as, the Interdisciplinary School of Advanced Education in Headache and SISC’s news bulletin “Giornale delle Cefalee”, while maintaining unchanged the original objectives and purposes, have completely renewed the composition of the managing directors and collaborators. Knowing personally the capabilities and the efficiency of these members, I am convinced that their activities will give new life to these institutions.
Actually I have high expectations with respect to future development of the SISC Independent Research. The multi-center collaboration represents one of the most important added values to the Scientific Society. I consider, therefore, the broad member participation in the chronic migraine research study only a first step towards the unfolding of new study topics proposed by SISC members which are the unconditional and free expression of the cultural turmoil of our Society.
Finally, I would like to say a few words regarding our National Congress (1-2 December 2017), which will be held in Rome at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in a joint edition with the EHF Congress. We intend to give this event a highly clinical imprint driven by the desire to offer participants a useful update on the most critical issues faced in daily practice. Therefore, let me take this opportunity to invite you all to participate.
Greetings to all and wishing all the best in your work.
Francesco Pierelli
President SISC
